2018 Senchuk Vineyard Chardonnay
The 2018 vintage was a warm season which allowed us to pick on September 18. The grapes were gently whole cluster pressed (separated by Clone), allowed to settle in chilled tanks over night. The juice was then racked into barrels; Clone 548- one puncheon and three barriques, Clone 96- three barriques, where is underwent spontaneous alcoholic and malolactic fermentation. The lees were not stirred and it was allowed to age for 16 Months. Bottled in March 2020.
Full and round with a core of acidity, this chardonnay shows what can be done with this variety in Niagara. The nose highlights lemon curd and mandarin orange that is rounded by hazelnut and soft baking spices. The palate backs up the direction of the nose with the lemon curd morphing into lemon meringue pie, with a strong wet stone/mineral base. This wine will age well over the next 8+ years.
